A Discussion on How to Start a Manual Car with a Dead Battery

You are getting ready to go and you found yourself in a situation where your vehicle will not start and you tried to jump start the vehicle and it does not work. Before calling the towing company if you have a manual transmission there is a tip for you. It is called push starting. The most effective way to get your vehicle started with a simple push to your vehicle literally with a simple push this trick will get your vehicle to start. This can be dangerous so you will need the help of another person and you will need to take precaution and make sure you know what you’re doing before attempting to do any of these steps.

By the way, this will ONLY work with a manual vehicle and NOT an automatic. If you try this with an automatic vehicle it will NOT work. If you have an automatic vehicle and the jump start will not start we advise you to call a towing service and take it to your local mechanic shop. You can also apply these tricks with a motorcycle and push start it like a manual car.

Push starting the manual car

The first thing you will need is to get the clutch into second gear after you have it in second gear with the key in the ignition turn it to on, take the emergency brake off and press down repeatedly on the clutch if you are alone on the hill you won’t need someone to push the car it will slowly start moving by itself. Press the clutch repeatedly and the engine should turn over causing the car to start. Once you have the car running be aware of the vehicle trying to stall out if this does happen to try doing the same thing one more time and make sure to have it running for at least 15 minutes before shutting it off, so that the alternator can start recharging the battery and prevent it from not starting again.

Getting help from others

If you are getting help from someone it is safer. You must maintain communication with each other making sure that there are no mistakes. Follow the steps as stated before but when you are pressing on the clutch make sure the person helping you is ready to push to the car as he or she is pushing the vehicle and you are pressing on the clutch pedal the engine should start to turn over and it should start if it does not then try again. Once the vehicle starts it will be best if you run the car for at least 15 minutes to make sure the vehicle will start again.

Take your vehicle to a mechanic shop

After getting your car started we always recommend to everyone to take their vehicle to the local Mechanic shop and have them take a look at it and see what seems to be the problem with the vehicles. You can drive your vehicle but there is no guarantee that your car will not have this issue again and I am pretty sure that you do not want to have to keep push starting your vehicle every time it does not start that will become very frustrating and dangerous for you and others out driving out on the road. When you get to the mechanic shop ask a professional to check the battery while someone else is checking the rest of the car.
